Illustration of the 3D visual mapping method. While the underwater vehicle moves forward, the sheet laser scans the seafloor and a camera takes images of the laser line projection, from which a high resolution bathymetry map can be generated. Flashed images are taken at a lower frequency, but frequent enough to cover the same area with some overlap between the photos, from which the colour can be mapped to the bathymetry
